Calagione likes to stand up to think. On a paddleboard. Every morning he paddles along a stretch of canal outside his home in Lewes, Delaware, about 20 minutes from his workplace. “That’s where I do most of my best thinking,” he says. Last year, Calagione spent time on his board trying to answer a perplexing question.
“Basically, I wanted to keep drinking a wide range of beers even though my metabolism was slowing down,” Calagione says. “Now that I’m approaching the big 5-0, I made it my goal to brew a beer that would be our lowest-calorie, lowest-carb beer ever, but still be flavorful.” After a year of research and development with the expertise of Dogfish Head’s on-staff scientists, Calagione released SeaQuench Ale to his ever-thirsty fans.
